Financial Planning Specialist in Alexandria, VA

Full-Time Position // $20 - $30 per hour

Job Summary

The Financial Planning Specialist reports to the Director of Budget for ACPS (Alexandria City Public Schools) and performs a wide variety of budget duties and tasks to support the budget office as well as the schools and departments.

The successful candidate will assist in the preparation, revision and monitoring of budgets for all funding sources including the operating fund, capital improvement program (CIP), grants, school nutrition fund, and other special revenue projects.

He/she will provide appropriate budget guidance and financial support to school-based personnel and other ACPS staff in accordance with established guidelines and financial practices. The candidate will work collaboratively with all schools and departments.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide full support to all financial aspects of long term financial planning and the fiscal year budget cycle
• Prepare and update the budget calendar and review/ edit all financial planning communications
• Update budget instructions and manage budget template distribution and consolidation
• Assist with the preparation, review, and publication of budget procedures and guidelines
• Perform financial document publication and presentations using Adobe InDesign and PowerPoint
• Manage online postings of all financial services information (website, intranet, etc)
• Assist in maintaining the chart of accounts
• Assign budget account codes and validate FMS adjustments
• Maintain appropriate audit trail of all financial transactions
• Provide training for treasurers and other school-based personnel
• Serve as front-line support for all financial planning inquiries

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in job-related area
• Minimum 2 years related work experience
• Strong MS Office skills, specifically Excel pivot tables, report creation using advanced Excel functions, charts and graphs, and Power Point presentations
