Job Overview
The Senior Accountant reports to the Controller. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general ledger accountability, and financial reporting, as well as financial and project profitability analysis and other special projects as assigned.
Job Duties
- Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures and prepare supporting schedules according to monthly close cale.
- Analyze revenues, commissions and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis and report on variances.
- Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Accurately calculate monthly sales team commissions in accordance with individual plans.
- Prepare property and sales tax returns.
- Prepare and maintain project budget information, reconcile project and subcontractor costs with the general ledger, perform financial analysis of project costs versus budgets, provide timely project financial information to project managers and senior management.
- Identify and accurately record customer receipts and daily activity in bank accounts; research and apply unallocated cash in a timely manner; provide management with daily cash reports.
- Collection calls and/or correspondence to delinquent clients.
- Provide customer service regarding collection issues, process customer refunds, process and review account adjustments, resolve client discrepancies and short or over payments.
- Maintains financial security by following internal controls.
- Provide excellent and considerate customer service to clients and sales team.
- Order Client software and notify clients of upcoming enhancements and renewals.
- Prepare payments after verifying appropriate documentation and approval.
- Calculate and pay General Services Administration (GSA) Industrial Funding Fees on a quarterly basis.
- Prepare and distribute 1099's to vendors.
- Assist with corporate reporting requirements.
- Track and maintain fixed asset ledger; prepare depreciation entries and statutory reporting schedules.
- Comply with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
- Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
- Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential
- Document policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.
Education/Skills/Qualifications
- Bachelors' or higher degree in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university.
- Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting theory especially as it relates to revenue recognition in the area of software sales and services. helpful
- 2+ years progressively responsible experience in public/private accounting; professional services or technology industry preferred.
- Revenue recognition in an IT Services environment is a requirement for Percentage of Completion and Deliverable Based Revenue Recognition is a plus
- Project accounting experience is a plus.
- Strong analytical, accounting and systems skills.required
- Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and major accounting software packages; Great Plains Accounting or similar software is required
- Ability to assist in the implementation of new systems.
- Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus.
