Youth Business Initiative (YBI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was established to strategically position youth and young adults in foster care to successfully transition to independence. YBI accomplishes its mission by offering a residential summer institute and school year Saturday Academy that addresses the gaps in services currently provided to youth in foster care. This program presents participants with tools, resources, and opportunities that help them navigate their futures and feel more secure and supported as they enter adulthood.
Founded by alumni of the foster care system, this organization and its staff are uniquely qualified to help foster youth become actively engaged in developing their potential and living life successfully.
Position Responsibilities:
- Document and enter information in databases in a timely fashion
- Produce acknowledgment letters
- Maintain quality and accuracy of information in database and files
- Manage solicitation lists and invitations
- Research foundations, businesses and individuals
- Help organize and coordinate meetings and events
- Order all supplies for programs
- Maintain a log of books + supplies (when ordered, contact, quantity, cost etc.) prior to the program
- Track supplies to assure they arrive prior to the program
- Ensure invoices are paid in a timely manner
- Assist in setting up program plans and ensuring timelines are met
- Assist with commuter students drop-off/pick-up location during the program
- Maintain schedules and perform other day-to-day office duties
Qualifications:
- Welcome diversity and enjoy working with people from many different cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds
- Be a self-starter and self motivated (able to take direction and work without immediate supervision)
- Have strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong communication skills (ask questions for clarity)
- Bachelor's degree desired but not required
- Experience working with youth highly desirable
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite Programs (including advanced functions)
- Typing speed of 45-60 wpm
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to work creatively and effectively as a member of a team
- Willing to work some weekend hours
- Strong interest to work in non-profit sector
