Requirements
Strategy & Planning
- Assess and cultivate long-term strategic goals for database development in conjunction with IT management and staff.
- Analyze user requirements and, based on findings, design functional specifications for client/server databases and database applications.
- Plan and implement capacity and resource expansion to ensure scalability of company databases.
- Assist with the design of redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery to ensure effective availability, protection, and integrity of data assets.
Acquisition & Deployment
- Design and deploy data table structures, reports, and queries.
- Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
Operational Management
- Coordinate and work with other technical staff to develop relational databases.
- Develop automated database applications, where necessary, using applicable database packages and software.
- Identify data entry, retrieval, change, and delete issues, and work to ensure a high level of data availability.
- Work with project managers to ensure that data entry, retrieval, change and delete functions meet business requirements for project completion.
- Install and configure relevant components to support database access.
- Diagnose and resolve database access and performance issues.
- Evaluate and recommend database components, including hardware, relational database management systems, ETL software, metadata management tools, and database design solutions.
- Mentor and/or provide leadership to junior members of the team.
- Maintain Disaster Recovery site database activation procedures and execute procedures in the event of site testing as well as in a real disaster.
- Support and administer non-Production Sybase ASE environments including Development, Testing, and User Acceptance Testing.
- Lead R&D efforts around the use of new Sybase features
Qualifications
Formal Education & Certification
- University B.S. degree in the field of computer science, information systems, or computer engineering
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum 4-5 years of working experience with developing, installing, configuring and supporting Sybase ASE database environments.
- Minimum 4 years of application development experience with working experience using Sybase connectivity software including Open Client and jConnect.
- Experience in Securities Industry preferred.
- Experience with database platforms, including Sybase ASE and Sybase Replication Server.
- Experience with database design applications, including Erwin.
- Strong understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
- Hands-on experience with business requirements gathering/analysis.
- In-depth technical knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems, including Sun Solaris.
- Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques.
- Strong understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
- Past employment with Freddie and Fannie Mac is a plus
