Junior Database Applications Developer in Alexandria, VA

Job Overview

This company is looking for a talented junior database applications developer in their higher education technology consulting division. Their consultants work with universities to help them get the most out of their administrative and data systems.

This is an entry-level position with room for career growth and professional development. The junior developer will work as a member of a consulting team to develop custom software enhancements for the university's existing software. This requires a broad understanding of software development environments with a focus on complex database business applications.

Responsibilities

• Development/Design of custom "bolt-on" database applications
• Development/Design of Software Integration
• Development/Design of data extractions and custom reports
• Follow development standards and best practices

Requirements

• Extensive SQL experience (oracle, sql server, other)
• 1+ years Experience with PL/SQL or other database programming languages
• Understanding of UNIX or other server operating systems
• Elegant modular code developer
• Related Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
• Excellent problem solving and communication skills, highly self-motivated
• Understanding of source control and bug tracking
• Must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident

Nice to have

• Experience with student information systems (Datatel, Banner, PeopleSoft)
• Experience with enterprise database business applications (such as Oracle Finance, PeopleSoft HR, SAP, etc.)
• Experience with case tools such as People Tools.
• Desired languages: SQL, PL/SQL, HTML, PHP, Java, PeopleCode, Envision
• Software integration or SOA
