The Food Service Coordinator is an important part of our Congregational team. The person who will excel in this position is well organized and able to plan creative and diverse menus within a budget for weekly Saturday lunches, holidays, and special occasions. The coordinator is responsible for purchasing the ingredients or prepared foods needed for the week, to bake or cook for some special events, and to keep an accurate account of expenses.
Responsibilities:
- Working independently, as well as with congregational staff and volunteers to purchase food and supplies for synagogue events and plan creative menus
- Weekly baking (and occasional cooking) for Friday evenings; luncheon preparation for Saturday afternoons
- Scheduling volunteers and hiring staff for special events
- Maintaining kitchen cleanliness and organization
- Attending a training from our Rabbi about keeping kosher rules (called Kashrut) in the
- synagogue kitchen
- Monitoring inventory of food, supplies, and equipment
- Working within an established budget
- Managing the food ordering process by identifying local vendors and comparing costs
