A dynamic organization in Washington, D.C. is seeking a Grant Accountant to join its Finance department. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role will oversee various aspects of grants management, including financial reporting, compliance monitoring, database management, and collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
Responsibilities of the Grant Accountant:
- Accurately maintaining grant subledgers
- Processing invoices, reviewing expense reports, and maintaining necessary financial records
- Supporting and vetting grant-related databases
- Preparing monthly payment requests related to federal programs
- Ensuring timely submission of narrative reports
- Preparing and submitting financial reports for grants
- Supporting ad hoc reporting requests related to grant programs
- Coordinating grant closeouts
Additional responsibilities:
- Managing timely billing and collection of grant funds
- Preparing audit schedules related to financial statement and federal award audits
- Assisting with research and reporting related to vendor status
- Recommending solutions for complex accounting challenges related to grants management
- Performing financial data analysis as requested by leadership
- Preparing internal and external financial reports, including donor, restricted, or endowment schedules
- Assisting with cost analysis, budget development, and forecasting
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Qualifications of the Grant Accountant
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred
- 3–5 years of grant accounting experience, including financial tracking and analysis
- Strong knowledge of GAAP/GAAS and FASB standards
- Proficiency in advanced spreadsheets and accounting systems
- Experience creating budget-to-actual reporting using Excel and tools like Workday Adaptive
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently with a proactive and resourceful approach
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with both internal and external stakeholders
Fulltime, Hybrid
$75,000-$85,000 + Excellent Benefits
